Sadie rescue donkey, July 2007
Read MoreSadie! She's a very pretty girl! The vet estimated that she was about four years old. She had been abandoned by one owner when the owner sold the house/property where she was living. There was another donkey with her, who got killed in an accident. The new property owners tried to care for her, but she escaped, and was running loose. Eventually she found some horses and their owners allowed her to stay with them until I heard about it and took her. I don't know all the details of course, but I was told she had been fed alfalfa which is too rich for donkeys, so although she wasn't fat, the crest on her neck got very heavy and had broken over.
At the time I took this photo, spring shedding had just started for the donks, so she's still very woolly.
I don't think she'd had much, if any, training. She is very sweet and loves to be scratched, but she's very big and very pushy, especially with the boy mini donks - they do not get along well!
Oh, did I mention? She is a full size standard - quite a bit bigger than the minis with corresponding strength and sense of entitlement!
She is very bonded with Sara, the mini jenny, and those two together exemplify the song "girls just wanna have fun"
